Technology Detection

Content Chimera automatically detects what technologies a website uses — CMS platforms, analytics tools, JavaScript frameworks, CDNs, and more. It also analyzes logos found on pages and tracks every external domain encountered during crawling. Together, these features give you a quick technical profile of a site without needing access to its backend.

Wappalyzer Technology Detection

During crawling, Content Chimera runs Wappalyzer-based detection to identify specific products and platforms by examining HTTP headers, HTML markup, JavaScript variables, and other signals in the page source.

Detected technologies are grouped into categories such as:

  • CMS — WordPress, Drupal, Sitecore, Adobe Experience Manager, etc.

  • Analytics — Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Matomo, Hotjar, etc.

  • JavaScript frameworks — React, Vue.js, Angular, jQuery, etc.

  • CDN — Cloudflare, Akamai, Amazon CloudFront, etc.

  • Tag managers — Google Tag Manager, Tealium, etc.

  • Marketing automation — HubSpot, Marketo, Salesforce, etc.

Technology detection runs automatically during the crawl — no additional setup is needed.

How pages are selected:

Wappalyzer analysis does not run on every crawled page. Instead, Content Chimera uses a structural sampling approach: it analyzes one representative page per folder path that has confirmed child content. When the crawler encounters a second page under a given folder, it triggers Wappalyzer on the first page it saw in that folder — which is typically an index or listing page.

This keeps the analysis manageable on large sites. The system caps detection at 250 folder paths per domain and 500 total per crawl, so even very large sites complete in reasonable time.

Content Chimera also runs Wappalyzer on encountered external domains — one analysis per external root domain linked from the site. This gives you a technology profile of third-party services the site depends on.

Logo Analysis

Content Chimera identifies logos that appear on crawled pages. This can surface branding elements, partner logos, certification badges, and other visual identifiers. Logo analysis runs automatically during processing.

Encountered Domains

Every external domain that the site links to or loads resources from is recorded during the crawl. This includes domains referenced in links, scripts, stylesheets, images, and other embedded resources.

The encountered domains list helps you understand:

  • Which third-party services the site depends on

  • Where external links point (partner sites, social media, etc.)

  • Whether there are unexpected domains that warrant investigation

Each domain entry includes the count of references found and example pages where the domain was encountered. For more detail on the encountered domains report, see The Crawling Pipeline.

Accessing Technology Detection Data

Web UI

Technology detection results, logo analysis, and encountered domains are available in the Other Analysis section of your extent. Navigate there from the extent menu to see the full breakdown.

Chimera Chat

Technology detection data is not directly available through Chimera Chat. Use the Web UI or MCP interface to access this information.

MCP

Ask your AI assistant to retrieve the technology profile for your site. For example:

“What technologies does this site use?”

“Show me the encountered domains and logos for this site”

The response includes detected technologies by category, logos found on the site, external domains with reference counts, and CSS-based page template groupings.
